Blueprint for College & Career Readiness PDF Print E-mail
Year: 2015
Synopsis:

By the year 2020, nearly 2/3 of all U.S. jobs will require a two- or four-year degree, yet Indiana currently ranks 40th of all states in higher education.  College cost and student debt have been highly publicized issues recently and the 2015 Capstone Team developed a blueprint for increasing college and career preparedness among elementary school aged students and their families in the Mill Creek Community School Corporation.  The College Go Week plan consists of a parent workshop facilitated by a representative from the Indiana College Choice Direct 529 Savings Plan, exhibitors from various local and state resources including College Choice Direct, North Salem State Bank, Hendricks College Network, and 21st Century Scholars, and an essay contest encouraging students to write a plan for their future career goals.  The blueprint could be expanded upon and used in other school districts in Hendricks County in the future.

High School Job Shadowing PDF Print E-mail
Year: 2015
Synopsis:

The team pursued the idea of creating a directory of business professionals in Hendricks County who would be willing to have high school (or middle school) students shadow them in the workplace. Through a poll of middle school and high school administrators and teachers, it was confirmed that no such resource exists and would be helpful. Through research, networking and discussions, the 2015 Capstone Team decided to develop the project plan for this project, which includes information about: the benefits of job shadowing for businesses and students, program goals and objectives, program tools and resources, marketing and communications ideas, implementation considerations, rewards and acknowledgements. This plan could be adopted by a future Capstone Team, or even adopted by a Hendricks County business or school for implementation.
